Teenage Mothers Project F.N.N

Florence Nduleve Nzuki is an 18 year old teenage mother at Serene Haven Rescue Centre in Nyeri County. Florence is a Form 4 student at Serene Haven Secondary School that is housed within the same institution. Her baby is one and a half years old. Florence schools and resides with her baby at the institution.

Florence is happy that she was able to continue with her education despite conceiving at an early age. She is firmly fixed on her dream of becoming a fashion designer as she loves fashion and hair dressing. When in class, Florence need not worry about her baby as he is taken care of, allowing her to concentrate on her studies.

Florence and her baby are Team Members in The Msichana Shujaa Project. This is a project Kare Foundation has partnered with Serene Haven Rescue Centre to deliver. Components of the project include teen mums are enabled to go back to school to not only complete their schooling but also pursue their career dreams and secondly, placement of the teen mums and their babies with willing relatives.

The Msichana Shujaa Project offers secondary school education scholarship and thereafter tertiary education. It also offers upkeep for the teen mum and her child, psycho-social support like counseling services, medical care, spiritual nourishment and other professional services all geared towards empowering the Team Members. Psycho-social support was in response to society stigma towards girls giving birth when perceived to be young or in unclear circumstances.

James 1:27

Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world
